Call for councillor Hartley to resign

Councillor Jon Hartley in Park Ward seems to be in a spot of bother. Allegedly he has been failing to turn up to important meetings and may have misled the Council.

I would say maybe he had not been attending some of the council meetings because he was busy with casework. However as my recent Freedom Of Information Request has shown, at less than one item per month this is not the case.

If it is shown that Councillor Hartley has deliberately misled the Council then he should resign. Otherwise he will need one almighty grovelling apology!

The misleading statement that this call from the Conservatives alludes to is the debate over Homophobic Bullying in Schools and that Cllr. Hartley based his argument against Cllr. Harris on two points.

1) Section 28
2) That RBC was already part of the Stonewall Diversity Champions scheme

The second point has been found to be incorrect.

Personally I think this is a petty attempt by the Tories to play 'party politics' with Liberal Democrats in the council to either side with Labour or side with them so they can brag about 'pacts' between parties (a sad shame that I we'd both see eye to eye on).

The more important issue is getting us signed up to the programme to allow the resources in the scheme to be available to local schools to tackle homophobic bullying.

But yes, again, if this was about casework I might have a different opinion.
